The Director of Facilities Engineering provides strategic leadership and technical expertise to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and management of all building systems and infrastructure within a Level I Trauma acute care hospital, surrounding administrative buildings, and outpatient facilities. This role is pivotal in maintaining critical systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gases, emergency power, fire protection, and building automation systems, ensuring they meet the highest reliability, safety, and compliance standards in a 24/7/365 environment.

The Director oversees a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and contractors, fostering a culture of excellence, safety, and collaboration. They are responsible for developing and executing comprehensive programs for system performance optimization, predictive and preventive maintenance, and risk mitigation. The role also involves planning and managing capital improvement projects, including infrastructure upgrades, renovations, and new construction, while ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and regulatory requirements.

A critical function of this position is ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards, including those set by The Joint Commission (TJC), OSHA, NFPA, and other regulatory bodies. The Director manages audits, maintains detailed documentation, and ensures all systems and facilities are ready to support patient care without interruption.

The Director also leads sustainability and energy management initiatives, focusing on efficiency improvements, resource conservation, and integrating advanced technologies. By leveraging data analytics and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), they track performance metrics, guide decision-making, and drive continuous improvement.

10 years’ experience in facilities management. Experience directly responsible for plant engineering and maintenance in an institutional, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing setting.

Working knowledge of utility systems, including purchasing, distribution, and efficient use of utility resources.

Demonstrated experience with service and maintenance contract negotiations and administration.

Experience in developing and managing operational and capital budgets.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) from an accredited institution.

Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred. Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) or equivalent is an added advantage preferred. Master’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred
